Old Farm

Old Farm has its roots in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. It started, grew, and existed as a diverse, predominantly Black community. Spawned during the times of Durham’s Urban Renewal Project, the area quickly blossomed as a close-knit predominantly two parent, single-family neighborhood.

The hallmark of the Urban Renewal Project was the creation of the Durham Freeway which ran straight through most of the city’s African American neighborhoods and Durham’s affluent Black Wall Street. The razing of these areas laid the grounds for many young, upwardly mobile families to move to the city’s suburbs. A movement that allowed many youths reared in Old Farm, now (40-60-year-olds) to proudly boast of an incredible childhood and a village that still consists of many of those amazing parents today. These parents created an environment of Family & Friends, a foundation of pride, and successful children who continue to maintain the excellence inspired in their childhood. Today, Old Farm boasts of increased diversity, neighborly-love, and shared tranquility

Old Farm consists of almost 500 homes, a Durham City Park, a private Swim & Racquet Club, and has its own shopping center (Riverview Shopping Center). It borders apartments, townhomes, retirement living, and West Point on the Eno. Old Farm is not just a neighborhood; it’s a neighborly community!
